NORTH LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The former Poker Palace has reopened as Club Fortune North, a redesigned locals casino that includes the 14th Nevada location of Boomer’s Sportsbook. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday, July 22.

Truckee Gaming purchased the longtime Poker Palace property, shut it down, and invested $2.8 million in renovations. The makeover included new LED perimeter lighting, updated signage, refreshed landscaping, and a fully redesigned casino floor.

A new vision for North Las Vegas

Ferenc Szony, CEO of Truckee Gaming, said the company saw North Las Vegas as an area of growth and redevelopment when it began looking for a second Nevada market beyond its Henderson location.

“We took what was the old Poker Palace that kind of looked like Excalibur and Circus Circus maybe got together and had a baby,” Szony said. “But we said, listen, we’re going to take that and create something brand new. And we hope that the community feels that what we’ve done here at Club Fortune is kind of the new vision of where north Las Vegas is going in the future.”

Szony said the project took longer and cost more than anticipated, but added the company believes it was worth it. Truckee Gaming’s model focuses exclusively on locals, with an expectation that regulars will visit more than once per week.

“All of our operations are locals’ casinos,” Szony said. “We don’t do hotels, we don’t do tourists. We count on people that are going to be with us two or three times a week.”

Boomer’s opens its 14th Nevada location

Boomer’s Sportsbook, described as Nevada’s only independent sports betting operator, opened inside Club Fortune North on July 22. The location marks the company’s 14th sportsbook in the state, along with 18 deposit kiosk locations statewide.

Joe Asher, President and CEO of Boomer’s Sportsbook, said the company is offering both sports wagering and pari-mutuel horse race betting at the new location. Customers can place bets at the retail counter, on property kiosks, or through the Boomer’s Mobile App, which can be activated in-store in approximately two minutes and used anywhere in Nevada.

“Having a Boomer’s Sportsbook inside this terrific new casino is something we are very excited about,” Asher said. “We are so happy to be a part of it and offer a great race and sports betting experience for our customers.”
